Seaside Wisdom For Life Elementary School  (SWLS) is the new alternative for elementary education in Encinitas, CA. Currently offering K-3 children a Holistic Education where learning is based on the principle of interconnectedness, a balanced integration of credentials, curriculum, consciousness and a deep commitment to each child’s wholeness. SWLS is a heart-centered system that enables the teachers and parents to establish education on a spiritual platform. The school offers a system of education that emphasizes experiential learning and practical skills for living through balancing the mind, body and spirit via personal, physical, mental and spiritual development.

Striving toward "Transformational Learning" rather than "Informational Learning", SWLS assists children to develop a love of learning, teaching a child how to learn and how to ask questions, think, analyze, conclude thereby empowering students to discover the answers for themselves. Students discover how to see, hear, observe, feel, and create using all their senses; to develop their inherent intuition and to recognize the difference between knowledge and understanding, making education a means of encouraging rather than forcing children to learn.

Academics are made relevant to actual needs and interests of each student allowing each child to learn at their mental, emotional, developmental level and utilizing practical, solution-oriented learning rather than fact-gathering, theoretical ideas, and memorization. SWLS uses supportive learning, teaching skills for life, which are more, clearly focused on human needs and interests and how to develop one's talents and abilities to reach their true potential. Through experiential learningand Natural Law, many lessons are learned by actual experience —demonstrable truths rather than abstract theories. Academics are taught holistically and curriculum at SWLS is integrated, maximizing whole brain development.

The emotional intelligence program we are guided by (Conscious Discipline and Loving Guidance by Becky Bailey)  helps us to respond rather than react. Creating lasting behavior with consistent, gentle, loving guidance helps children recognize for themselves the value of feelings and which actions and choices lead to personal happiness for themselves and others. Most importantly, they develop self-confidence through kindness and supportive guidance. Small, multi-age classes with a 12:1 ratio (or less) allow for an enriched academic program, combined with attention to each individual child's emotional needs fosters an atmosphere for joyful learning. When a child feels safe and loved they are free to be themselves, becoming an inwardly strong, secure person. With self-assurance and confidence in their abilities, they are wide open to learn anything!

 SWLS is a private, non-profit, non-secular school that uses a system of education called "Education For Life" (EFL), based on the principles outlined in the book of the same name by J. Donald Walters (Swami Kriananda). It is a tested and proven approach with 35 years of successful, transformational teaching in an extraordinary learning environment. Three years ago SWLS established a strategic alliance with five other Education For Life schools based in the United States and is proud to bring this model to Southern CA for the first time. The roots of all five of the EFL schools lie in universal truths and qualities that are in harmony with the spiritual principles outlined by both Yogananda and Ernest Holmes, bringing together a wonderful balance between Eastern and Western philosophies. This philosophy shares aspects of many other faiths, cultures and traditions without religious dogma and states that each religion, in its essence, encompasses the universal truths embodied in our schools. SWLS supports each child’s Inner Life and respects their individual expressions, beliefs and traditions. Therefore all spiritual paths are honored, accepted and welcomed here in a diverse but unified community.

Seaside Wisdom for Life School is sponsored by Seaside Center for Spiritual Living (SCSL). At its founding in 2005, the congregation wanted to offer an outreach to children beyond just Sunday mornings.  Therefore the school is an outreach of SCSL. Even though we are a small school, SWLS has many benefits it can offer families through the whole Seaside campus: wonderful facilities, beautiful meditation gardens, adjacent parks as well as a large supportive community with a wide assortment of educational classes and special programs that truly supports the whole family. Speakers such as Nancy Tappe (Indigo Children) and Rev. Michael Beckwith (The Secret) are just a few examples.
